AI voice agents that confirm fitment and get auto parts orders through checkout

In auto parts, fitment is the sale: year, make, model, trim and engine, and one wrong guess turns into a return. A Loop Voice agent calls shoppers who stalled at checkout, checks the part against your fitment data, says plainly when that data doesn't cover their car, and stays with them while they retry a declined card.

    The short answer

For an auto parts store, the AI voice agent's first job is fitment: it calls shoppers who left checkout, confirms the part fits their year, make, model and engine from your fitment data, and stays with them through checkout, including a retry after a declined card. On a recorded call for an auto parts store, Sofia retried a declined payment with the agent on the line until her screen said the order was confirmed. The agent never guesses fitment your data doesn't cover and never suggests removing or disabling emissions equipment.

    Why parts buyers leave checkout

    One model, several cars

The same model year can come with different engines, drivetrains and trims, and a part that fits one may not fit the next. Shoppers who have returned a part that almost fit wait at checkout until someone confirms it. A call asks what a fitment dropdown skips: trim, engine, transmission.

    Street legal or not

Performance buyers want to know whether a part will pass where they live. In California, an add-on or modified part that passes a CARB engineering evaluation gets an Executive Order exempting it from emission control anti-tampering laws. If your listing has the EO number, the agent reads it out; if not, the agent doesn't call the part legal there.

The install is part of the price

A bolt-on intake and a part that needs a lift and a shop are different purchases. Shoppers want to know which one they're buying, and what else they'll need, such as gaskets or hardware, before they pay.

The card was declined and nobody said why

Shopify notes that many banks return only a generic decline, so the shopper often can't tell whether to retry, use another card or call the bank. Meanwhile the checkout sits in your abandoned list, not your orders.

Where calls fit in a parts store

Call stalled checkouts, declined cards included

In Shopify, a payment that fails usually leaves the checkout among your abandoned checkouts, so the default abandoned checkout flow calls those shoppers along with everyone else. The agent stays on the line through the retry and never takes card details.

Answer fitment and order status calls

The inbound agent answers at the first ring, checks fitment questions against your data and looks up order status. When the data doesn't cover a car, it opens a ticket so your parts specialist calls back.

Call back "will this fit?" tickets

If fitment questions reach your team as HubSpot tickets, a HubSpot ticket event can start a flow, and the shopper who asked gets a call while they're still deciding. The agent works from the same fitment data and hands off what it can't confirm.

Ring the waitlist when a backordered part lands

When it's back in stock, call everyone who asked for a restock alert, either as a campaign to a segment you build in Shopify or Klaviyo or with a flow that starts on added to list. The agent rechecks fitment before anything else.

Sofia's payment had been declined, and she tried again with the agent on the line. She reads out the processing screen, the page changes to order confirmed, and the agent offers to check on its side that the order shows as paid and active.
    Shopper

It says it's processing, and the confirmation code is [confirmation code redacted].

    AI agent

Got it. Confirmation code [confirmation code redacted]. Does the page then change to order confirmed? Thank you. Or is it still stuck on process

    Shopper

It says that order was confirmed.

    AI agent

    thing.

    AI agent

Perfect. Then you're all set, and it went through. Do you want me to quickly confirm on our side that it shows as paid and active?

Questions parts buyers ask before they pay

    What shoppers say

“Will this fit my 2016 WRX?”

    How the agent answers

It asks for the year, make, model, trim and engine and checks them against the fitment data you load. If that exact car isn't listed, it says so and opens a ticket for your team instead of guessing.

    What shoppers say

    “Is this legal in California?”

    How the agent answers

It reads the CARB Executive Order number when your listing has one. Without one, it doesn't call the part street legal in California, and it never suggests removing, bypassing or disabling emissions equipment.

    What shoppers say

    “Will this void my warranty?”

    How the agent answers

It reads the answer you publish and gives no legal opinion of its own. If the shopper wants certainty about their car, it suggests asking the warrantor or the dealer.

    What shoppers say

“Do I need anything else to install it?”

    How the agent answers

It lists what your install notes call for, such as gaskets, hardware or a specific tool, and says when you recommend a professional install. It doesn't recommend software or parts that change emissions controls.

    What shoppers say

    “My card keeps getting declined.”

    How the agent answers

It explains that the decline comes from the bank, not your store, and suggests what Shopify does: check the card details, try a different payment method or call the bank. Then it texts the checkout link and stays on the line. It never asks for card numbers.

Set it up for a parts catalog

    1. Connect Shopify or WooCommerce so products, orders and abandoned checkouts sync. Then give the agent your fitment data: import the product pages that carry fitment notes, or upload fitment charts as PDF, Word or text files, and run the retrieval test with real year, make, model and engine combinations.

    2. Use the abandoned checkout template as the base. Declined-card checkouts enter the same flow, so add a short retry script to the prompt: check the card details, try again or switch to a different payment method, and stay on the line until the confirmation page loads.

    3. Add custom guardrails: "Never guess fitment that isn't in the data" and "Never suggest removing, bypassing or disabling emissions equipment, or software that changes emissions controls." Keep the never hallucinate guardrail on.

    4. Set the escalation path so a fitment question the data can't answer becomes a ticket for your parts team: in Loop Voice, and in Gorgias too once it's connected, or in Zendesk or a support inbox. During support hours, let the agent transfer build questions to a person.

    5. Calls follow the calling hours you set, by the clock where the shopper lives, and a stop request puts the number on the do-not-contact list ahead of the flow's next step. Consent for AI calls is yours to collect; the calling rules guide lists what it takes.

    6. In the simulator, write a customer who owns a diesel pickup and asks whether you sell a delete kit. The right answer is a clear no; check that the agent gives it before you go live.

    Emissions and warranty rules

    • EPA's December 2020 enforcement alert says the Clean Air Act prohibits anyone from manufacturing, selling, offering for sale or installing a part that bypasses or defeats emissions controls, and from knowingly removing or disabling those controls. Among the controls at stake it names diesel particulate filters and EGR systems, and among defeat devices, tuning software sold as "tunes." Brief the agent to refuse any request in that territory.
    • Each CARB Executive Order has a number that Smog Check stations can verify, and it covers specific vehicles, not every car the part bolts onto. Store EO numbers and the vehicles they cover in your product data, and have the agent read them rather than paraphrase.
    • Under the FTC's interpretation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act on tie-ins (16 CFR 700.10), a warrantor can't make a warranty depend on using only its authorized parts for non-warranty service, though it can deny coverage for damage it shows an unauthorized part caused. Base your published warranty answer on that, confirm the wording with counsel, and let the agent read it rather than improvise.

    Questions

Can the agent look up fitment from a VIN?

There's no VIN lookup in Loop Voice's documentation. The agent works from the fitment data you give it, so it asks the shopper for the details that decide fitment and opens a ticket for your team on anything the data can't settle.

Why do declined cards show up as abandoned checkouts?

In Shopify, a payment that fails at checkout usually doesn't create an order; Shopify records the attempt as an abandoned checkout and logs each try in that checkout's Timeline. That's why the Loop Voice flow reaches these shoppers without extra setup. For other reasons checkouts fail, see Shopify checkout not working.

Will the agent help a shopper find a delete kit or a defeat tune?

No. Brief it to decline and say why: EPA says the Clean Air Act prohibits selling or installing parts that bypass or defeat emissions controls. Whether any part belongs in your catalog is a question for your counsel, not the agent.

Has any auto parts store published Loop Voice results?

Not yet, and Sofia's checkout is the only auto parts call in the library. Build your own baseline in the first month: answered calls, orders attributed within your window and fitment tickets, since each of those tickets marks a car your data doesn't cover.

Can the agent handle a return for a part that didn't fit?

The inbound agent answers return and exchange questions from your policy, such as whether the part must be uninstalled and in its original packaging, and opens a ticket so your team can issue the label. Log the fitment miss as well, so the data gets fixed.
