Loop Voice for Twilio: keep the numbers your customers already know

Import the numbers you own from Twilio, or connect a SIP trunk from Twilio, Vonage or Telnyx, and your Loop Voice agent calls and answers on the caller ID customers already have. Loop Voice checks your Twilio credentials and that the number belongs to that account before it saves the import. A Twilio account isn't required: you can also buy numbers through Loop Voice in 90+ countries.

    How to connect

    1. 1

Pick the route from the table below: import if the number sits in your Twilio account, connect the trunk if it already runs on a SIP trunk from Twilio, Vonage or Telnyx, or buy a number in Loop Voice.

    2. 2

To import, go to where you manage phone numbers in Loop Voice, choose to import from Twilio and enter your Twilio credentials.

    3. 3

Loop Voice checks the credentials and that the number belongs to that Twilio account. The import is saved only when both checks pass.

    4. 4

Switch call recording on or off for the number, and look over its caller ID settings under Settings, Numbers, Register.

    5. 5

Call the number from your own phone before customers do, and check that the agent you expect answers.

Numbers are set up apart from Settings, Integrations. The help center article on bringing your own Twilio number covers the same options.

A SIP trunk suits a store whose phone system already runs on one; Twilio describes its Elastic SIP Trunking as connectivity for IP-based phone systems to reach the public phone network over an internet connection (Twilio SIP trunking docs). The Super Number is included on the Scale plan (pricing).

    Texts and caller ID

Calls and texts answer to different carrier rules. Twilio says anyone sending SMS or MMS from a 10DLC number to US phones through an application must register for A2P 10DLC (Twilio on A2P 10DLC). If the agent will text checkout links from your own local number, read our A2P 10DLC registration guide before launch; it covers the brand and campaign steps, the fees and the review times.

For calls, caller ID registration sits under Settings, Numbers, Register, where Loop Voice helps you register numbers with US carriers and for STIR/SHAKEN. Loop Voice also offers caller ID name registration and checks your numbers for Spam Likely labels every day. Whether a local or a toll-free number fits each job is in our guide to local and toll-free numbers.

Moving a support line without changing the number

Example: a mattress store's support number has lived in its Twilio account for years and is printed on every delivery note. The store imports it into Loop Voice, and the agent now answers every call on that number. During support hours it can transfer a caller to the team's direct line after briefing whoever picks up; if nobody answers within the ring time, or the office is closed, it opens a ticket. Nothing changes on the delivery notes.

    FAQ

    Common questions

Do I need a Twilio account to use Loop Voice?

No. Buy numbers through Loop Voice in 90+ countries, or use the US Super Number on the Scale plan. Twilio only matters if a number your customers know already lives there.

What does Loop Voice check before it saves an imported number?

That the Twilio credentials you entered work, and that the number belongs to that Twilio account. If either check fails, the import isn't saved, so a wrong credential shows up at setup rather than on a customer's call.

Can I keep a number that runs on Vonage or Telnyx?

Yes, if it runs on a SIP trunk from either: connect the trunk to Loop Voice and keep the caller ID you already have. A Twilio SIP trunk connects the same way.

My store number is with another phone company. What are my options?

Forward it to a Loop Voice number so the agent answers inbound calls, or port it to Twilio and then import it. Twilio's porting docs say Twilio becomes the number's carrier, and the process asks for a utility bill showing you own the number (Twilio on porting).

Can I turn off call recording on an imported number?

Yes. Recording is switched on or off per number. Where it's on, Loop Voice keeps recordings for 7 days by default, extendable to 90.
